On the shutdown of BetterTT

What caused the shutdown?

The day of writing this, the 3rd April 2024, the Terms of Service of Territorial were updated. The new terms disallow distribution of any modified version of the game, including BetterTT. This means that BetterTT is no longer allowed to be distributed, and as such, I have no choice but to shut it down. I did receive a warning a few weeks prior by the developer of Territorial that this might happen, so this was sadly to be expected.

What will happen to the website?

The website will be unusable from this point on.

What will happen to other services?

All other services, such as the Discord bot, will be shut down as well.

My clan relied on the bot, what now?

I'm sorry to hear that. I will not be able to provide any alternatives or a way to export your data, you can manually export the points while the bot is still online. In theory, you could run the bot yourself, but I will not provide any support for that.

Why are other services being shut down?

I don't have any intention to remain in the community after the shutdown of BetterTT, I'm sorry. I'm aware that the bot is used by many people, especially clans to keep track of their points, but this has to be done. After putting thousands of hours into the project, I don't have the motivation to continue working on anything related to Territorial.

Will this have any impact on the Territorial community?

Well, I kinda hope so. Modding is an important part of most games and I hope that the community will show the developers that they want to be able to modify the game.

This project was never supposed to become this large, I've intended to stop working on it back in January 2023 I've dropped the link into one chat at the time and it just grew from there, through word of mouth.

Some statistics: (I've never shared anything like these before)

(This will be edited to include more information over the next few days)

Thank you for going on this journey with me
